א  דִּבְרֵי עָמוֹס, אֲשֶׁר-הָיָה בַנֹּקְדִים מִתְּקוֹעַ:  אֲשֶׁר חָזָה עַל-יִשְׂרָאֵל בִּימֵי עֻזִּיָּה מֶלֶךְ-יְהוּדָה, וּבִימֵי יָרָבְעָם בֶּן-יוֹאָשׁ מֶלֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵל--שְׁנָתַיִם, לִפְנֵי הָרָעַשׁ.
Amos 1:1 The words of Amos, who was among the herdmen of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.
ב  וַיֹּאמַר--יְהוָה מִצִּיּוֹן יִשְׁאָג, וּמִירוּשָׁלִַם יִתֵּן קוֹלוֹ; וְאָבְלוּ נְאוֹת הָרֹעִים, וְיָבֵשׁ רֹאשׁ הַכַּרְמֶל.  {פ}
Amos 1:2 And he said: the LORD roareth from Zion, and uttereth His voice from Jerusalem; and the pastures of the shepherds shall mourn, and the top of Carmel shall wither. {P}
ד  הֲיִשְׁאַג אַרְיֵה בַּיַּעַר, וְטֶרֶף אֵין לוֹ; הֲיִתֵּן כְּפִיר קוֹלוֹ מִמְּעֹנָתוֹ, בִּלְתִּי אִם-לָכָד.
Amos 3:4 Will a lion roar in the forest, when he hath no prey? Will a young lion give forth his voice out of his den, if he have taken nothing?
יד  וַיַּעַן עָמוֹס, וַיֹּאמֶר אֶל-אֲמַצְיָה, לֹא-נָבִיא אָנֹכִי, וְלֹא בֶן-נָבִיא אָנֹכִי:  כִּי-בוֹקֵר אָנֹכִי, וּבוֹלֵס שִׁקְמִים.
Amos 7:14 Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah: 'I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet's son; but I was a herdman, and a dresser of sycamore-trees;
טו  וַיִּקָּחֵנִי יְהוָה, מֵאַחֲרֵי הַצֹּאן; וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלַי יְהוָה, לֵךְ הִנָּבֵא אֶל-עַמִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל.
Amos 7:15 and the LORD took me from following the flock, and the LORD said unto me: Go, prophesy unto My people Israel.

יז  בֶּן-אָדָם, צֹפֶה נְתַתִּיךָ לְבֵית יִשְׂרָאֵל; וְשָׁמַעְתָּ מִפִּי דָּבָר, וְהִזְהַרְתָּ אוֹתָם מִמֶּנִּי.
Ezek 3:17 'Son of man, I have appointed thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; and when thou shalt hear a word at My mouth, thou shalt give them warning from Me.
יח  בְּאָמְרִי לָרָשָׁע, מוֹת תָּמוּת, וְלֹא הִזְהַרְתּוֹ וְלֹא דִבַּרְתָּ לְהַזְהִיר רָשָׁע מִדַּרְכּוֹ הָרְשָׁעָה, לְחַיֹּתוֹ--הוּא רָשָׁע בַּעֲו‍ֹנוֹ יָמוּת, וְדָמוֹ מִיָּדְךָ אֲבַקֵּשׁ.
Ezek 3:18 When I say unto the wicked: Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but his blood will I require at thy hand.
יט  וְאַתָּה, כִּי-הִזְהַרְתָּ רָשָׁע, וְלֹא-שָׁב מֵרִשְׁעוֹ, וּמִדַּרְכּוֹ הָרְשָׁעָה--הוּא בַּעֲו‍ֹנוֹ יָמוּת, וְאַתָּה אֶת-נַפְשְׁךָ הִצַּלְתָּ.
Ezek 3:19 Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.
כ  וּבְשׁוּב צַדִּיק מִצִּדְקוֹ וְעָשָׂה עָוֶל, וְנָתַתִּי מִכְשׁוֹל לְפָנָיו הוּא יָמוּת:  כִּי לֹא הִזְהַרְתּוֹ, בְּחַטָּאתוֹ יָמוּת, וְלֹא תִזָּכַרְןָ צִדְקֹתָו אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה, וְדָמוֹ מִיָּדְךָ אֲבַקֵּשׁ.
Ezek 3:20 Again, when a righteous man doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, I will lay a stumblingblock before him, he shall die; because thou hast not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteous deeds which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thy hand.
כא  וְאַתָּה כִּי הִזְהַרְתּוֹ צַדִּיק, לְבִלְתִּי חֲטֹא צַדִּיק--וְהוּא לֹא-חָטָא:  חָיוֹ יִחְיֶה כִּי נִזְהָר, וְאַתָּה אֶת-נַפְשְׁךָ הִצַּלְתָּ.  {פ}
Ezek 3:21 Nevertheless if thou warn the righteous man, that the righteous sin not, and he doth not sin, he shall surely live, because he took warning; and thou hast delivered thy soul.' {P}

ט  וְאָמַרְתִּי לֹא-אֶזְכְּרֶנּוּ, וְלֹא-אֲדַבֵּר עוֹד בִּשְׁמוֹ, וְהָיָה בְלִבִּי כְּאֵשׁ בֹּעֶרֶת, עָצֻר בְּעַצְמֹתָי; וְנִלְאֵיתִי כַּלְכֵל, וְלֹא אוּכָל.
Jer 20:9 And if I say: 'I will not make mention of Him, nor speak any more in His name', then there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I weary myself to hold it in, but cannot.

א  וַיְהִי, דְּבַר-יְהוָה, אֶל-יוֹנָה בֶן-אֲמִתַּי, לֵאמֹר.
Jonah 1:1 Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying:
ב  קוּם לֵךְ אֶל-נִינְוֵה, הָעִיר הַגְּדוֹלָה--וּקְרָא עָלֶיהָ:  כִּי-עָלְתָה רָעָתָם, לְפָנָי.
Jonah 1:2 'Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and proclaim against it; for their wickedness is come up before Me.'
ג  וַיָּקָם יוֹנָה לִבְרֹחַ תַּרְשִׁישָׁה, מִלִּפְנֵי יְהוָה; וַיֵּרֶד יָפוֹ וַיִּמְצָא אֳנִיָּה בָּאָה תַרְשִׁישׁ, וַיִּתֵּן שְׂכָרָהּ וַיֵּרֶד בָּהּ לָבוֹא עִמָּהֶם תַּרְשִׁישָׁה, מִלִּפְנֵי, יְהוָה.
Jonah 1:3 But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD; and he went down to Joppa, and found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish, from the presence of the LORD.

Why am I posting this? I have eyes to see and ears to hear.. and I have no desire to anger the most high by holding silent, or by taking ship for Tarshish

ב  אָבַד חָסִיד מִן הָאָרֶץ, וְיָשָׁר בָּאָדָם אָיִן:  כֻּלָּם לְדָמִים יֶאֱרֹבוּ, אִישׁ אֶת אָחִיהוּ יָצוּדוּ חֵרֶם.
Micah 7:2 The godly man is perished out of the earth, and the upright among men is no more; they all lie in wait for blood; they hunt every man his brother with a net.
ג  עַל הָרַע כַּפַּיִם, לְהֵיטִיב, הַשַּׂר שֹׁאֵל, וְהַשֹּׁפֵט בַּשִּׁלּוּם; וְהַגָּדוֹל, דֹּבֵר הַוַּת נַפְשׁוֹ הוּא--וַיְעַבְּתוּהָ.
Micah 7:3 Their hands are upon that which is evil to do it diligently; the prince asketh, and the judge is ready for a reward; and the great man, he uttereth the evil desire of his soul; thus they weave it together.

ג  לָמָּה תַרְאֵנִי אָוֶן וְעָמָל תַּבִּיט, וְשֹׁד וְחָמָס לְנֶגְדִּי; וַיְהִי רִיב וּמָדוֹן, יִשָּׂא.
Habakkuk 1:3 Why dost Thou show me iniquity, and beholdest mischief? And why are spoiling and violence before me? so that there is strife, and contention ariseth.
ד  עַל-כֵּן תָּפוּג תּוֹרָה, וְלֹא-יֵצֵא לָנֶצַח מִשְׁפָּט:  כִּי רָשָׁע מַכְתִּיר אֶת-הַצַּדִּיק, עַל-כֵּן יֵצֵא מִשְׁפָּט מְעֻקָּל.
Habakkuk 1:4 Therefore the law is slacked, and right doth never go forth; for the wicked doth beset the righteous; therefore right goeth forth perverted.

לד  גַּם בִּכְנָפַיִךְ נִמְצְאוּ, דַּם נַפְשׁוֹת אֶבְיוֹנִים נְקִיִּים; לֹא-בַמַּחְתֶּרֶת מְצָאתִים, כִּי עַל-כָּל-אֵלֶּה.
Jeremiah 2:34 Also in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the innocent poor; thou didst not find them breaking in; yet for all these things
לה  וַתֹּאמְרִי כִּי נִקֵּיתִי, אַךְ שָׁב אַפּוֹ מִמֶּנִּי; הִנְנִי נִשְׁפָּט אוֹתָךְ, עַל-אָמְרֵךְ לֹא חָטָאתִי.
Jeremiah 2:35 Thou saidst: 'I am innocent; surely His anger is turned away from me'--behold, I will enter into judgment with thee, because thou sayest: 'I have not sinned.'

כ  הוֹי הָאֹמְרִים לָרַע טוֹב, וְלַטּוֹב רָע:  שָׂמִים חֹשֶׁךְ לְאוֹר וְאוֹר לְחֹשֶׁךְ, שָׂמִים מַר לְמָתוֹק וּמָתוֹק לְמָר.  {ס}
Isaiah 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that change darkness into light, and light into darkness; that change bitter into sweet, and sweet into bitter! {S}
כא  הוֹי, חֲכָמִים בְּעֵינֵיהֶם; וְנֶגֶד פְּנֵיהֶם, נְבֹנִים.  {ס}
Isaiah 5:21 Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight! {S}
כב  הוֹי, גִּבּוֹרִים לִשְׁתּוֹת יָיִן; וְאַנְשֵׁי-חַיִל, לִמְסֹךְ שֵׁכָר.
Isaiah 5:22 Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink;
כג  מַצְדִּיקֵי רָשָׁע, עֵקֶב שֹׁחַד; וְצִדְקַת צַדִּיקִים, יָסִירוּ מִמֶּנּוּ.  {פ}
Isaiah 5:23 That justify the wicked for a reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him! {P}
א  הוֹי הַחֹקְקִים, חִקְקֵי-אָוֶן; וּמְכַתְּבִים עָמָל, כִּתֵּבוּ.
Isaiah 10:1 Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and to the writers that write iniquity;
ב  לְהַטּוֹת מִדִּין, דַּלִּים, וְלִגְזֹל, מִשְׁפַּט עֲנִיֵּי עַמִּי--לִהְיוֹת אַלְמָנוֹת שְׁלָלָם, וְאֶת-יְתוֹמִים יָבֹזּוּ.
Isaiah 10:2 To turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right of the poor of My people, that widows may be their spoil, and that they may make the fatherless their prey!

What can you or I do about this evil time?

ו  בַּמָּה אֲקַדֵּם יְהוָה, אִכַּף לֵאלֹהֵי מָרוֹם; הַאֲקַדְּמֶנּוּ בְעוֹלוֹת, בַּעֲגָלִים בְּנֵי שָׁנָה.
Micah 6:6 'Wherewith shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before God on high? Shall I come before Him with burnt-offerings, with calves of a year old?
ז  הֲיִרְצֶה יְהוָה בְּאַלְפֵי אֵילִים, בְּרִבְבוֹת נַחֲלֵי-שָׁמֶן; הַאֶתֵּן בְּכוֹרִי פִּשְׁעִי, פְּרִי בִטְנִי חַטַּאת נַפְשִׁי.
Micah 6:7 Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousands of rivers of oil? Shall I give my first-born for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?'
ח  הִגִּיד לְךָ אָדָם, מַה-טּוֹב; וּמָה-יְהוָה דּוֹרֵשׁ מִמְּךָ, כִּי אִם-עֲשׂוֹת מִשְׁפָּט וְאַהֲבַת חֶסֶד, וְהַצְנֵעַ לֶכֶת, עִם-אֱלֹהֶיךָ.  {ס}
Micah 6:8 It hath been told thee, O man, what is good, and what the LORD doth require of thee: only to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God. {S}
ה  כִּי אִם-הֵיטֵיב תֵּיטִיבוּ, אֶת-דַּרְכֵיכֶם וְאֶת-מַעַלְלֵיכֶם:  אִם-עָשׂוֹ תַעֲשׂוּ מִשְׁפָּט, בֵּין אִישׁ וּבֵין רֵעֵהוּ.
Jeremiah 7:5 Nay, but if ye thoroughly amend your ways and your doings; if ye thoroughly execute justice between a man and his neighbour;
ו  גֵּר יָתוֹם וְאַלְמָנָה, לֹא תַעֲשֹׁקוּ, וְדָם נָקִי, אַל-תִּשְׁפְּכוּ בַּמָּקוֹם הַזֶּה; וְאַחֲרֵי אֱלֹהִים אֲחֵרִים לֹא תֵלְכוּ, לְרַע לָכֶם.
Jeremiah 7:6 if ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt;
ז  וְשִׁכַּנְתִּי אֶתְכֶם, בַּמָּקוֹם הַזֶּה--בָּאָרֶץ, אֲשֶׁר נָתַתִּי לַאֲבוֹתֵיכֶם:  לְמִן-עוֹלָם, וְעַד-עוֹלָם.
Jeremiah 7:7 then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, for ever and ever.

ו  כִּי כֹה אָמַר אֵלַי, אֲדֹנָי:  לֵךְ הַעֲמֵד הַמְצַפֶּה, אֲשֶׁר יִרְאֶה יַגִּיד.
Isaiah 21:6 For thus hath the Lord said unto me: Go, set a watchman; let him declare what he seeth!
ז  וְרָאָה רֶכֶב, צֶמֶד פָּרָשִׁים--רֶכֶב חֲמוֹר, רֶכֶב גָּמָל; וְהִקְשִׁיב קֶשֶׁב, רַב-קָשֶׁב.
Isaiah 21:7 And when he seeth a troop, horsemen by pairs, a troop of asses, a troop of camels, he shall hearken diligently with much heed.
ח  וַיִּקְרָא, אַרְיֵה--עַל-מִצְפֶּה אֲדֹנָי, אָנֹכִי עֹמֵד תָּמִיד יוֹמָם, וְעַל-מִשְׁמַרְתִּי, אָנֹכִי נִצָּב כָּל-הַלֵּילוֹת.
Isaiah 21:8 And he cried as a lion: 'Upon the watch-tower, O Lord, I stand continually in the daytime, and I am set in my ward all the nights.'
א  עַל-מִשְׁמַרְתִּי אֶעֱמֹדָה, וְאֶתְיַצְּבָה עַל-מָצוֹר; וַאֲצַפֶּה, לִרְאוֹת מַה-יְדַבֶּר-בִּי, וּמָה אָשִׁיב, עַל-תּוֹכַחְתִּי.
Habakkuk 2:1 I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will look out to see what He will speak by me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.
