Naration and Legislation Compared

If the Bible is perfect, and miraculously protected by the Hand of the Almighty, as some claim, there should not be any significant disagreement found in it.

Christians claim perfection for their entire book, the three sections of the Hebrew Bible (Tanach) and their own writings, the "New Testament", while the Orthodox Jews claim complete perfection only for the first section of the Tanach, the Torah, the five "Books of Moses."

I will consider here only the Torah, since for the Christian whole to be perfect, all parts must be perfect. Also, I will ignore repetitions, with or without variations, as not being significant, and only put forward where The Law of an Unchanging Almighty Creator is seen to reverse itself; as Balaam explained to Balak in Numbers 23:18 "God is not man to be capricious, Or mortal to change His mind."

Lev 18:1 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying:
ט  עֶרְוַת אֲחוֹתְךָ בַת-אָבִיךָ, אוֹ בַת-אִמֶּךָ, מוֹלֶדֶת בַּיִת, אוֹ מוֹלֶדֶת חוּץ--לֹא תְגַלֶּה, עֶרְוָתָן.  {ס}
Lev 18:9 The nakedness of thy sister, the daughter of thy father, or the daughter of thy mother, whether born at home, or born abroad, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover. {S}
י  עֶרְוַת בַּת-בִּנְךָ אוֹ בַת-בִּתְּךָ, לֹא תְגַלֶּה עֶרְוָתָן:  כִּי עֶרְוָתְךָ, הֵנָּה.  {ס}
Lev 18:10 The nakedness of thy son's daughter, or of thy daughter's daughter, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover; for theirs is thine own nakedness. {S}
יא  עֶרְוַת בַּת-אֵשֶׁת אָבִיךָ מוֹלֶדֶת אָבִיךָ, אֲחוֹתְךָ הִוא--לֹא תְגַלֶּה, עֶרְוָתָהּ.  {ס}
Lev 18:11 The nakedness of thy father's wife's daughter, begotten of thy father, she is thy sister, thou shalt not uncover her nakedness. {S}
Lev 18:18 And thou shalt not take a woman to her sister, to be a rival to her, to uncover her nakedness, beside the other in her lifetime.
Lev 18:29 For whosoever shall do any of these abominations, even the souls that do them shall be cut off from among their people.
ל  וּשְׁמַרְתֶּם אֶת-מִשְׁמַרְתִּי, לְבִלְתִּי עֲשׂוֹת מֵחֻקּוֹת הַתּוֹעֵבֹת אֲשֶׁר נַעֲשׂוּ לִפְנֵיכֶם, וְלֹא תִטַּמְּאוּ, בָּהֶם:  אֲנִי, יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם.  {פ}
Lev 18:30 Therefore shall ye keep My charge, that ye do not any of these abominable customs, which were done before you, and that ye defile not yourselves therein: I am the LORD your God. {P}

Levitical legislation against marriage to your sister or half sister, and against marriage to two sisters at the same time, countered by..

Gen 20:12 And moreover she is indeed my sister, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and so she became my wife.

And also..

Gen 29:25 And it came to pass in the morning that, behold, it was Leah; and he said to Laban: 'What is this thou hast done unto me? did not I serve with thee for Rachel? wherefore then hast thou beguiled me?'
Gen 29:26 And Laban said: 'It is not so done in our place, to give the younger before the first-born.
Gen 29:27 Fulfil the week of this one, and we will give thee the other also for the service which thou shalt serve with me yet seven other years.'
Gen 29:28 And Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week; and he gave him Rachel his daughter to wife.

Gen 35:11 And God said unto him: 'I am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins;

Num 17:5 to be a memorial unto the children of Israel, to the end that no common man, that is not of the seed of Aaron, draw near to burn incense before the LORD; that he fare not as Korah, and as his company; as the LORD spoke unto him by the hand of Moses. {P}

The Aaronite priesthood has a total monopoly on the rituals of sacrifice; the LORD our God has an uncontrolable temper and will punish the whole people should anyone else presume to try approaching to worship; Countered by...

יח  וַיֶּאֱהַל אַבְרָם, וַיָּבֹא וַיֵּשֶׁב בְּאֵלֹנֵי מַמְרֵא--אֲשֶׁר בְּחֶבְרוֹן; וַיִּבֶן-שָׁם מִזְבֵּחַ, לַיהוָה.  {פ}

Gen 26:25 And he builded an altar there, and called upon the name of the LORD, and pitched his tent there; and there Isaac's servants digged a well.

Deu 5:7 Thou shalt not make unto thee a graven image, even any manner of likeness, of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
Deu 5:8 Thou shalt not bow down unto them, nor serve them; for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the third and upon the fourth generation of them that hate Me,

No images whatsoever? no sculpture or paintings or any other "likeness"? What if the LORD were to tell you to break this law, as in the following?

Exo 26:1 Moreover thou shalt make the tabernacle with ten curtains: of fine twined linen, and blue, and purple, and scarlet, with cherubim the work of the skilful workman shalt thou make them.
Exo 37:8 one cherub at the one end, and one cherub at the other end; of one piece with the ark-cover made he the cherubim at the two ends thereof.
ט  וַיִּהְיוּ הַכְּרֻבִים פֹּרְשֵׂי כְנָפַיִם לְמַעְלָה, סֹכְכִים בְּכַנְפֵיהֶם עַל-הַכַּפֹּרֶת, וּפְנֵיהֶם, אִישׁ אֶל-אָחִיו; אֶל-הַכַּפֹּרֶת--הָיוּ, פְּנֵי הַכְּרֻבִים.  {פ}
Exo 37:9 And the cherubim spread out their wings on high, screening the ark-cover with their wings, with their faces one to another; toward the ark-cover were the faces of the cherubim. {P}

Embroidered images on the cloth of The Tabernacle itself, and sculpted creatures ON The Ark of the Covenant. And then, of course:

Num 21:8 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole; and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he seeth it, shall live.'
Num 21:9 And Moses made a serpent of brass, and set it upon the pole; and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he looked unto the serpent of brass, he lived.

Deu 5:8 Thou shalt not bow down unto them, nor serve them; for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the third and upon the fourth generation of them that hate Me,

Quite curious.. a purported quote of The LORD our God saying he judges us by our ancestry, and punishes the child, grand-child and great grandchild for violations of Levitical rules. Setting aside the verse where he told Ezekiel that he would leave them no excuse to speak such Blasphemy, as being outside our chosen range of text, there is this from Deuteronomy.

Deu 7:9 Know therefore that the LORD thy God, He is God; the faithful God, who keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love Him and keep His commandments to a thousand generations;
Deu 7:10 and repayeth them that hate Him to their face, to destroy them; He will not be slack to him that hateth Him, He will repay him to his face.
יא  וְשָׁמַרְתָּ אֶת-הַמִּצְוָה וְאֶת-הַחֻקִּים וְאֶת-הַמִּשְׁפָּטִים, אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי מְצַוְּךָ הַיּוֹם--לַעֲשׂוֹתָם.  {פ}
Deu 7:11 Thou shalt therefore keep the commandment, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which I command thee this day, to do them. {P}

Deu 23:4 An Ammonite or a Moabite shall not enter into the assembly of the LORD; even to the tenth generation shall none of them enter into the assembly of the LORD for ever;

Ok, I know the counter-point to this is outside the Torah, but consider that a Moabite daughter of a Moabite father married Boaz, and bore him Obed, the Father of Jesse, the Father of David.

The evidence is inescapable, the author of some sections of the legislation finds abhorent practices that were approved in the lives of the patriarchs. The plain conclusion is that some of the passages in the Torah were authored by persons other than The LORD our God, and claims of divine perfection for the Torah, for the Tanach which includes the Torah, and for the Christian Bible which contains the Tanach, are without foundation in truth.
